You're Five Months Old

Baby Girl,

What a month!! You have had so many firsts this month: real food, sitting up, swimming, words (depending on who you ask) just to name a few.  You have really grown out of the "baby" phase and you are really getting to be a big girl.  I even tried to rock you like a baby the other day and you would have nothing to do with it!!

You are getting to be so fun.  While I miss the stage where I could just hold you, you are so much fun.  One night we were all sitting in bed.  Your daddy was playing on his phone, I was on the iPad, the TV was on, and you were sitting in the middle of us.  We like to let you sit up for a little while after you eat to make sure you don't spit up while you are asleep.  While we were sitting with you, we honestly weren't paying too much attention to you because we didn't want to get you stimulated while you were trying to get ready for bed.  But while we weren't paying you much attention you were reaching for everything and sure enough got a hold of the remote and had the buttons pressed and the screen messed up.  I looked at your daddy and said, "We can no longer just let you sit or hold you anymore.  You need our attention all the time!"  You are becoming so aware of everything around you.  You grab at EVERYTHING!!

This month you got to have real food for the first time.  I knew you would be excited, especially after I tried the rice cereal you were eating at 4 months.  I honestly felt bad about feeding it to you after I tasted it.  We threw it away, because I knew you would never eat that after eating real food.  The first thing we tried were bananas.  You took to this right away and loved them.  I still think they are your favorite food out of everything we have tried.  Next was carrots (these didn't go over as well - but you warmed up to them after a couple of days).  Then we did squash, sweet peas, and applesauce.  You have honestly liked everything we have given you!  This is good news.  Hopefully you won't be a picky eater like your mommy and daddy.

All smiles after bananas!!!

Not the same reaction after carrots!
Trying sweet peas for the first time.

You wouldn't know this but your mommy can't cook.  However, I have made all the baby food we have given you.  I kind of like doing it actually.  I must be doing a good job, because you have no problem eating any of it!

It was also my first Mother's Day with you this year.  I guess technically I had a Mother's Day last year, but you were in my belly.  I woke up to a sweet card with your hand traced and a beautiful necklace.  Of course, the best present is you!!  We spent the day with Nanny and then came home and spent the evening with MiMi.

You have become quite the cuddle bug this month.  You have stopped letting me rock you to sleep, and instead you want to lay beside me in the bed until you go to sleep.  We also do this in the mornings to get a few extra hours of sleep.  You give the best hugs and if I pucker my lips and ask for a kiss you will come at me wide mouthed.  There is nothing better than a slobbery kiss.  You also love to be naked!!

Here are some other pictures from this month....A night out for a family dinner.  Of course we took pictures of you sitting in the high chair.  This isn't the first time, maybe the second, but you seem to like it.  And another picture of you sitting up for the first time - so proud of yourself!!

A few other things about you this month:

* You weigh 15 pounds.
* You started eating baby food.
* You have started to really "play" with toys.
* You have great hand-eye coordination.
* You are becoming a Momma's girl more and more each day.
* You wear a size 2 diapers.
* You wear a size 6 months (some 9 months bubbles, some 3 month dresses).
* You have started taking naps in your big girl crib.
* You love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - in fact if you are sitting in our laps you will turn your whole body around if you hear it on the TV.
* You sat up for the first time this month.
* You rolled over once or twice.
* You still HATE tummy time - no matter what we do!!
* You started sitting in a high chair when we go out to dinner.
* You love Patty Cake and This Little Light of Mine.
* You love books.
* You had some sleep regression this month.  That made for some long nights or mornings with you.  Around 2ish you would wake up and we would have to finally put you in the bed to go back to sleep.  However, if you got in the bed you typically went right back to sleep.
* You drink 6 oz. bottle still.
* We started giving you apple/pear juice to help with your pooping.  You seem to really like this.

You are really growing up fast.  I pray every night that as you grow you will be kind, smart, giving, responsible, respectful, but most of all will grow up knowing how much you are loved and wanted.  I knew how much I wanted you before you actually got here.  I didn't know how much you would change my life for the better.  I honestly could sit and watch you sleep or just hold you all night.  You are such a good baby that I truly can't imagine having another (mainly because I think another one couldn't be as good as you are).  You never cry.  Every time we go out someone always asks, "Is she like this all the time." Of course, our response is YES!! You have no idea how much you have changed your daddy and mine's life for the better. I know there will be days and times when things aren't this easy, but I hope you know that even in those times we will love you more than you will ever know.

Love,
Mommy

Memorial Weekend - Monday

Baby Girl,

We have done so much this weekend and had so many firsts.  But Daddy and I felt like you needed one more....swimming!! Although you did "swim" in Mary Hyatt's pool Saturday we wanted to take you to a big pool.  Luckily Aunt Reagan let us come to her daddy's house and swim.

We got up Monday morning, got dressed, and stopped at Walmart to hopefully find you a float and some swim diapers.  Unfortunately, Walmart (who is suppose to have EVERYTHING) didn't have a float small enough for you.  So we had to make one more stop by the Dollar General to find you a float.  Although cheesy and ugly, we did find a Princess "boat" that you could hopefully sit in.  Finally, we were off to Reagan's dad's house to swim. When we got there we still had to put you in your bathing suit.  You looked precious!!

When we got out to the pool we lathered you up in sun screen, blew up your new float, got out your squeaker toys, and got in to the pool.  Boy was it cold!!!  You did ok with it at first, but I think you thought it was cold too!!
Here we are getting into the pool.  I think it took your breath away at first, but you were all about it after that.

You did better than Mommy.  It was COLD!!

Here you are - looking just like Daddy!

After swimming a little while, you decided we were hungry so we stopped to get a bottle.  We quickly got back in and it was just as cold.  I guess you decided that you had had enough for the day.  We laid you back in your boat after a quick family picture and you were asleep, just floating in the pool.  I think you might be a diva!!

This was such fun way to end the weekend.  Lucky for us we have this pool we can go to and don't have to worry about other kids.  Unfortunately, we didn't get your picture with Aunt Reagan today :(.  I can't wait to take you swimming again very soon!

Love,
Mommy

A Fun Memorial Weekend - Sunday

Baby Girl,

One of my favorite things about Memorial weekend is the Alabama Jubilee and the balloons!!  I remember as a child always going to see them and am so excited to share this with you.  We missed out on the excitement Saturday, but weren't going to miss out on Sunday.  We got up and went to church and came home to take a nap so that we would be well rested for all the excitement that was sure to be had at the jubilee.

We were so excited that our friends Kristin and Micah got to go with us!!  We love this sweet family and don't get to see them as often as we would like.  Infact, this was the first time they had seen you in months.  Micah is getting so big and so handsome.  Lucky for you, because this will be your husband one day.  I feel there is something to be said for arranged marriages and we should go back to this way of life.  This way I know you have good in-laws that will love you like your daddy and I do.  OK...that was my sidebar.  When Micah and Kristin got here we went to McDonalds for a quick bite to eat.  We laughed and laughed because normally when we meet up with Kristin and Clayton and Micah we got somewhere nicer to eat.  We said this was by far the best dinner we had ever had together!

After dinner it was off to the jubilee.  We were also going to meet up with Christen, Ben, and Mary Hyatt.  We knew we were in for a night of entertainment with Mary Hyatt and Micah.  They are at just the right age to start playing and you have no problem watching!

When we got to the jubilee we were hoping we would get to go up in the tethered balloon rides.  I guess we were too late though.  We stood in 3-4 lines and every time they would tell us they were cutting the line off in front of us and we wouldn't be able to go up.  Luckily we at least found a balloon that would let us take pictures in it!  Next year we know to get their earlier!

Ben, Christen, and MH in the balloon.                 Kristin and Micah in the balloon.

You, Daddy, and Mommy in the balloon.

After we got our pictures in the balloon, we decided we should get a funnel cake and lemonade and find a spot to sit for the night.  This was quite interesting.  We decided it would be best if the mommies got the lemonades and found a spot while the daddies got the funnel cakes.  As we quickly realized, lemonade, babies, and strollers don't mix well.  Kristin and I had the hardest time pushing you and Micah through the grass to find somewhere to sit.  We got stuck in the mud and a sweet lady had to come help us get through it!  But we finally found somewhere to sit and relax...just in time!

Sweet Mary Hyatt and Micah...goodness how they have grown in 2 years!

Kristin and Micah eating their funnel cake.  These were a hit!!

Mommy, Daddy, and Olivia enjoying the night!

Fun times with sweet friends!

We really wanted a cute picture of the three of y'all....the next several pictures however explain how this went.  You can't say we didn't try!!

Luckily the last two turned out ok.  Laying down was the only way to keep everyone still long enough to snap a picture.

You and Mary Hyatt - best friends!!    Staring into the eyes of your future husband.  This picture will       be a hit at y'all's wedding!

This face may describe how you felt tonight...I am not sure!!

The great news is hanging out with the big kids makes you want to do big kids thing.  Look what you learned how to do tonight!!!
You make many faces throughout the day however the second picture shows my most favorite face!!

So proud of yourself!

Well, after balloon pictures, funnel cakes and lemonade, trying to take pictures, and playing it was time for the fireworks show.  I don't have any pictures but I think you really like it.  You seemed mesmerized by them.  They didn't scare you at all.  Once the fireworks were done it was time to go home.  We were now working on long day number 2 of this fun-filled Memorial Day weekend.  I can honestly say by the time we got back to the car you were the only kid still awake.  Infact, you were wide-eyed and ready to go.  You are a night owl like your daddy!  However it didn't take long to give you a bottle and get you to bed.  You are such a big girl now and Daddy and I had so much fun with you today and look forward to making the Alabama Jubilee a Memorial Day weekend tradition!

Love,
Mommy
